We get on the roof, count panels, find every entry point and show you what's actually up there. You get a firm number before anything starts.

We wash and sanitize the roof and panel area — not a dry sweep. Droppings get neutralized, not spread around.

We get called out constantly to redo somebody else's pigeon proofing. It's nearly always the same failure.
The gap between a solar panel and the roof runs about four to six inches. It's shaded from the sun, sheltered from wind, warmed from above by the panel and from below by the roof — and almost nothing can reach a bird once it's in there. If you set out to design a nesting site for a pigeon, you'd build exactly that.
This is why the problem is so common on newer homes. Rooftop solar became standard on California new construction, and nobody installing it was thinking about birds. A neighborhood built in the last fifteen years is a neighborhood full of ideal nesting sites, and pigeons are very good at finding them.
They also don't leave. Pigeons return to the same nesting site season after season, and their offspring come back to the site they were raised in. That's why hosing it out or chasing them off buys a few months at most. Until the gap is physically closed, you have a permanent tenant.
Fair question — here's the straight answer on each.
Any time is better than waiting — but fall and winter are easiest. Pigeons nest in spring, roughly February through April. Exclusion done in autumn means they never establish for the coming season. Wait until April and we're removing active nests with eggs or chicks in them, which is slower, messier and harder on the birds. Reading this in the fall? This is the right time.

Price is driven by three things: panel count, roof access and pitch, and how long the birds have been there. Add-ons like spinners run about $20 each installed, and re-doing a failed bolt-mounted install takes extra removal time. Most solar array jobs start at $450 and are priced by panel count and roof access. That includes removing old nests and mesh, full dropping cleanup and sanitizing, and installing new mesh secured with clips. The inspection is free and the quote is firm before we start.
Drilling bolts through the mesh puts holes in the material and, on some installs, in the panel frame — which can void your solar warranty. Worse, the mesh works itself off those bolts in High Desert wind and the pigeons walk right back in. Stainless clips grip the panel frame without penetrating it, hold in wind, and come off cleanly if a panel ever needs service.
Yes — and it's included, not an upcharge. We remove the nests, bag and haul the debris, wash and sanitize the affected roof and panel area, then rinse the panels. You should never be left with cleanup after a pigeon proofing job.
Yes. We don't trap, poison or harm the birds. We remove the nesting habitat, seal the gap under the array, and add deterrents so the flock relocates and stops treating your roof as home.
Most residential solar arrays are finished in a single day. Larger arrays, heavy nesting or difficult roof access can run into a second day — and we tell you that at the inspection, not after we've started.
Our pigeon proofing carries a 2-year pigeon-free warranty. If pigeons get back under the array within that period, we come back and fix it at no charge.
No. We clip to the panel frame and never drill into panels, penetrate the roof or touch the electrical system. If your installer requires notification, tell us and we'll document the work for them.
We'd rather you didn't. Dried droppings and nesting dust are a respiratory hazard, and the work happens on a roof, around live DC wiring, often on a slope. It's also only half the job if the gap stays open.
Exclusion work of this kind is generally fine, but check your agreement. We'll provide photos and a description of the work for your provider.
